I recently stayed over at the gorgeous Bliss Boutique Hotel, situated in Sunset Beach, Cape Town, just 15 minutes from my house.
We arrived at the hotel just after 5 p.m. on Friday and were welcomed by the lovely receptionist who assisted us with check-in. She also helped take our luggage up to our suite. That’s one of the best things about boutique hotels: they always go the extra mile.
We stayed in a beautiful suite that overlooked the beach and an array of fynbos. The peace and quiet you feel while the waves hit the rocks as you stand on the balcony is something I can’t explain. It’s honestly pure bliss.
Our suite was equipped with everything you needed, including a desk. The lounge area had a sleeper couch, perfect if you’re travelling with your family. Every room in the hotel came with a fully stocked bar fridge, snack drawer and a Nespresso coffee machine.
After settling in, we made our way to the restaurant and bar for dinner. We were greeted by a very friendly and well-spoken waiter and were seated. We took our time perusing the menu but decided to start off with a cocktail and headed over to the bar. After a lovely chat with Blessing, we ordered the Bliss Kiss cocktail. He had told us that it was one of his favourite cocktails to make and that it was definitely a winner. We simply had to have him make it for us. I was not disappointed at all. It was so refreshing. The Bliss Kiss contains vodka, lime juice, pear syrup and peach puree. It is shaken and served in a Martini glass. I really enjoyed the cocktail, but both Brolin and I could not resist looking into what gins they had on offer. By smelling the gin’s aromas, we instantly fell in love with the Inverroche Verdant Gin with wild Cape fynbos botanicals. Blessing sliced up some limes and lemons, and we added a few crushed peppercorns and tonic water and enjoyed our gin cocktails.
After a few classy drinks, we decided to check out the dinner menu. We were sold on the spiced crusted beef fillet which was cooked and seasoned to perfection. I wanted to lick my plate but I had to remind myself that I was in an upmarket establishment and not on my couch. This being our first night and after agreeing that we would have a quiet weekend in, we decided to head back to the bar to keep Blessing company since he was so lovely to talk to and made us feel at home. The service and food presentation were amazing.
The next morning we woke up to the sound of the smashing waves and knew we wanted to take a walk down to the beach. The hotel has a gate that leads straight onto the path to the beach, so getting down is no problem at all. We headed out for a morning walk and took in all the scenery. It was unfortunately overcast, so we couldn’t see the top of Table Mountain; nevertheless, we had an amazing view of the city and the beach walk was incredible.
We returned to a beautifully spring cleaned room that just gave me life for the day! Nothing quite makes me happier than a polished room. Jayson, the general manager, gave us a tour of the hotel and the various rooms it has to offer. The Bliss Boutique Hotel has eight luxury rooms, four of which can be divided into family rooms with a sleeper couch. Each room comes with DStv, a 40-inch high definition TV, electronic safe, air conditioning, free WiFi and room service. And as mentioned earlier, a fully stocked bar fridge and Nespresso machine.
On summer days, you can enjoy the beautiful pool area, which we were unfortunately not able to enjoy because it was too cold.
The service by the hotel staff was impeccable, the hotel was extremely clean and the environment is very quiet and relaxing. I would recommend this hotel as the perfect summer destination in Cape Town because it has the beautiful pool and beach a stone’s throw away. However, the hotel is also great in winter if you’re looking for some down time where you can just relax and take in all of the tranquillity.
Be sure to visit the Bliss Boutique Hotel’s website for more information and to see all their other beautiful rooms and price packages. Packages vary from Summer to Winter.
I will most definitely be back for a staycation in summer.
My overall experience would have to be a 10/10. The Bliss Boutique Hotel is the perfect getaway destination.
