London is one of the top tourist locations in the UK. It’s perfect for all kinds of people, whether you’re travelling there for a weekend break, or want to spend an extended amount of time in the city. There’s so much to do, and even more to see.
The only problem is that it’s a city notorious with high prices. Speak to people that live in London, and they’ll tell you it’s not a cheap place to be. With that being said, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy a trip to this great city, without spending anywhere near as much as you might think.
All you really have to do is be smart, and make a few clever choices.
USE THE TUBE
The London Underground gets a lot of stick, but I’ve always found it to be a very clever way of getting around and saving money. If you go here https://tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/visiting-london/visitor-oyster-card, you can pick yourself up a Visitor Oyster card. This can be used to pay for your fares as you go on the tube and the rest of the London transport network. The benefit of this is that you get capped fares during the day. For example, you can’t be charged more than £6.60 for travelling between zones 1 and 2 on any given day. This gives you unlimited travel around this part of London, for well under a tenner. It’s almost half as expensive as a travel card and way cheaper than paying for taxis too.
AVOID PAYING FOR HOTELS
Even if you’re only travelling for a one-night stay, London has some of the most ridiculous hotel prices in the world. Seriously, they should be illegal! This greatly ramps up the cost of staying here and can stop many people going to London for more than two nights. But, if you look on sites like http://www.londonservicedapartments.co.uk/, you could find a few serviced apartments that might fall more into your budget. You cut out all the things that usually ramp up hotel prices, such as room service, breakfasts, cleaning, and so on. It offers a potentially cheaper way of staying in London for a good week or so, and there’s also more chance you’ll find somewhere close to all the action.
There are so many places and things to see in London. The problem is, a lot of them cost a good deal of money. Now, you can save some pretty pounds by being smart when sightseeing. Try and do as much as you can for free! There’s no price for going to the top tourist sights and taking some pictures. This is a great way to fill a day full of fun in London, and avoid paying for all the tourist things. You don’t need to go inside the Shard and pay to go up to the top floor, just take a picture of it. If you do want a view, save money and pay to go to the London Eye instead! A lot of tourist attractions are overpriced, but filling up your Instagram with great travel memories is free!
Keep these tips in mind, and you will be able to travel to London without spending a complete fortune! For more great travel, lifestyle or fashion content, feel free to check out one of my other posts.
